The Vidalia News Recorder Wins Silver Davey Award for “General: Strange and Unusual” Content at the 2025 International Competition

The Vidalia News Recorder LLC (The VNR) is proud to announce that it has been honored with a Silver Davey Award in the category of “General: Strange and Unusual” at the 21st Annual Davey Awards, marking the publication’s first recognition in this prestigious international creative competition.

The Davey Awards, presented by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), celebrate outstanding creative work from small agencies, independent creators, and in-house teams worldwide. This year’s competition drew thousands of entries from across the globe, with winners selected by a panel of industry leaders from top brands and media organizations.

The VNR’s award-winning submission stood out for its absurdist, meta-journalistic approach, which satirizes not only the subjects of news but the very form of journalism itself.

From Scribbles O’Hanrahan, Editor in Chief…

Unlike those fancy-pants Robber Barons at ‘Big Satire’ with their defense contracts, debate team sponsorships, and questionable deals with dark lords, The VNR takes a different path—we don’t just satirize the news, we also wipe with it. While ‘Main Stream Satire’ invests in talent, non-denominational space lasers, and humor, we’re still suspiciously eyeing that warm apple pie, or that sock full of mashed potatoes. This Silver Davey award in the category ‘Strange and Unusual’ validates our mission to occasionally wake up before noon and use $5 words to tell 50¢ jokes.

While we can’t compete with The Onion, or Fox News, we can proudly proclaim that we’re The VNR—satire so full of satyrs it’s mythological, and how! While other small companies are selling out and being consumed into larger concerns, we will never sell out—for less than 1 trillion space dollars. Then we’ll be just as cool as whoever is running Tesla (who did not endorse, nor appreciate, this joke).

Never forget that by winning this award we forced at least one judge to visit and read our brand of neanderthal hucksterism. That judge will soon be released from the ICU and begin a month of mental convalescence before being trusted to not stare into the void.

How The VNR Stands Apart

While never compared to satirical outlets like The Onion or Fox News, The Vidalia News Recorder has carved out its own distinct identity:

  • The Onion parodies mainstream political and cultural news with straight-faced realism.
  • Fox News brilliantly parodies decency as America’s main-streamiest of media companies.
  • The Vidalia News Recorder, by contrast, embraces surreal, self-referential satire, lampooning idiocy… and poop.

This differentiation is precisely what makes the Silver Davey Award meaningful: The VNR is not simply following in the footsteps of established satire brands, but pioneering a new lane of experimental, media-critical humor.
